Immaculate Permutation creates an editable ambient project on the FM-1. Version 0.2.3 experimental includes the Rite of Revelation and the curated Evening Vow first-run project. Existing valid autosaves still take precedence at startup.
A brief gold-cross greeting gently fades into Immaculate Permutation. Press PLAY at any point to begin; notes and controls also dismiss it. Your restored music stays yours. Fresh installs and Return to Evening Vow wear GILT SIN; a saved color choice is retained. Available rite buttons light the way.
Hold SAVE for a little over a second to capture your current project while playback continues. The next empty A–D slot becomes SERMON A–D. SAVING SESSION stays visible until the save finishes. SESSION SAVED then remains for three seconds, with the destination slot beneath it. Find it under SAVE → PROJECT, in A–D. Wait for completion before switching off. SESSION NOT SAVED means the sermon was not kept; try again before switching off. If every slot is full, choose one with K1, then OCT+ and confirm the overwrite. Hold OCT- to undo the last rite; a short OCT- leaves the screen.
Tap HOME through MIXER and CLOCK to IMMACULATE PERMUTATION. The four knobs choose KEY, SCALE, RITE and STIR. KEY can be AUTO or any of twelve roots. SCALE can be AUTO, Minor, Dorian, Minor pentatonic or Major pentatonic. AUTO favors Minor, with Dorian and both pentatonic scales also represented.
Vigil favors warmth. Halo favors glassy bells. Requiem favors voice and physical sounds with darker brightness. STIR raises the number of sequence and arpeggio onsets while retaining gaps. SELECT chooses 40–110 BPM; turn below 40 to return to AUTO. AUTO favors 45–75 BPM. External clock remains selected and displays EXT; the external source controls timing.
Release held keys, then tap OCT+ to REVEAL. A stopped project remains stopped: press PLAY to hear it. A playing project stops, fades, changes, then resumes automatically. Recording is disarmed. OCT- leaves the screen. Hold OCT- on the Immaculate Permutation screen to undo the last rite. If you edited the result, the first hold warns; hold again to confirm replacing those edits. Undo lasts only for the current session and is invalidated by loading another project.
Track 1 is the sustained foundation. Track 2 plays a sparse repeated melody. Track 3 plays a recorded chord arpeggio, requiring no keyboard latch. Track 4 remains empty, unmuted and selected for live improvisation. Its keyboard scale snaps to the shared key; external MIDI retains the instrument's normal note behavior.
In Evening Vow, the silent live track 4 now carries PHYS → BOWED METAL: a bowed metallic voice ready for your hands. Existing restored music stays intact; Return to Evening Vow loads this new factory starting voice.
Evening Vow now develops your saved progression into sixteen bars: a familiar opening, then open voicings and an A-minor homecoming. The choir arrives in order: pad first, sequence two beats later, arp another two beats later. New permutations share that entrance. These rests belong to the loops and survive saves and exports.
On boot, Immaculate Permutation opens with track 4 selected. Your restored session remains intact; a fresh session contains Evening Vow. OCT+ creates a new arrangement. On normal performance pages or this screen, hold ENV and press OCT+ to evolve its harmony while preserving presets, parameters, rhythms, tempo and LFOs. The first three tracks must share Minor, Dorian, Minor pentatonic or Major pentatonic. Track 4 is untouched. Playback and clock phase continue, with the new notes heard on upcoming steps; currently sounding voices are left alone.
On normal performance pages or this screen, hold LFO and press OCT+ to bless all four tracks with slow sine/triangle modulation: approximately 0.08–0.27 Hz, free-running, with a gentle fade. The target is pan, reverb or chorus, at shallow depth. This replaces any existing LFO routes and uses modulation slot 4; the other non-LFO routes remain. Notes, presets, key and tempo stay intact. Full revelations do not randomize LFOs. Playback continues through Evolve and the LFO blessing. KEEP is retired: LFO + OCT+ always requests the blessing on performance pages. If temporary knob edits are pending, they revert first so releasing LFO cannot overwrite the new modulation. Menus, dialogs, save/load actions and active overlays retain their own controls. On Immaculate Permutation, hold OCT- to undo the last reveal, evolve or LFO blessing.
Hold HOME, choose SYSTEM → FACTORY RESET, and press OCT+ to open the Return to Evening Vow confirmation. OCT- cancels; OCT+ confirms. The current unsaved session and interface settings return to defaults. Saved projects, presets, favorites, samples, MIDI learn and panel calibration remain. The restored session stays stopped with live track 4 selected. Leave the instrument stopped and idle for at least 10 seconds before powering off so the new autosave can persist; if it was recently autosaved, the normal 60-second wear interval can defer this further.
Every full revelation receives a little help at the mixing altar. The Choir Master considers each chosen voice and its register, balances its place in the congregation and leaves room for your live track. Bright voices share the pulpit; soft ones receive a gentle lift. The result is a starting mix: visit MIXER and adjust LEVEL to taste. Some presets still whisper. Evolve, automatic evolution and LFO blessings keep your fader choices; Evening Vow stays curated.
Hold HOME, choose SYSTEM, then AUTO EVOLVE: OFF, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24 or 32 BARS. While PLAY runs, the harmony evolves at that interval without changing your key, sounds, rhythms, LFOs or live track. A bar is four beats of the active clock. Your selected track stays selected. The value updates as you turn it, and evolution continues while AUTO EVOLVE is selected. Recording, other menu pages, shortcut maps and transfers skip an interval without catching up afterwards. Stopping and restarting begins a fresh wait. 16 BARS is the fresh-install default; Return to Evening Vow returns it to 16 BARS. Existing saved settings stay intact.
On ordinary performance pages, OCT+ and OCT- transpose the selected track's live keyboard, latched arp and forthcoming sequence notes, up to three octaves either way. Each track remembers its own temporary shift; press both buttons to return it to the original octave. Drum kit assignments stay put, and notes already ringing finish naturally. Loading a project, a full revelation or project undo clears these shifts. Immaculate Permutation keeps OCT+ for Reveal and OCT- for leaving; the ENV/LFO gestures keep their blessings.
Connect the updated firmware in The Choir Loft. In Projects, the Immaculate Permutation panel offers the same key, scale, rite, stir and tempo controls. Leave Seed blank for a new revelation, or enter an unsigned decimal number from 0 through 4294967295 to replay a recipe. The firmware composes the project; older firmware and the browser mock do not pretend to run this feature.
Stop playback before Export scripture. This downloads the complete current project, including all four tracks and embedded FM6 patches. Receive scripture imports only the current project; it does not replace device settings, saved slots, preset banks or samples. Normal project Save A–D and complete Ark backups remain available. The saved project is authoritative after edits; a seed reproduces the original recipe only with the same generator version and factory resources.
The four macros are Sanctuary (reverb), Echo (delay), Halo (chorus) and Procession (panning). They begin at zero and do not retune the project.
MENU → DISPLAY → COLOR → GILT SIN dresses the instrument in black, blood crimson, silver and gold. It is optional; your existing saved color choice remains yours.
Choose The Apocrypha on the hosted installer, connect the FM-1, preserve your scriptures and acknowledge the update risks. Version 0.2.3 has identity FM-1_80023 and can update stock FM-1_014 or the previous UnholyUnion FM-1_80010, FM-1_80011, FM-1_80012 or FM-1_80013 or FM-1_80014 or FM-1_80015 or FM-1_80016 or FM-1_80017 or FM-1_80018 or FM-1_80019 or FM-1_80020 or FM-1_80021 or FM-1_80022. The installer leaves the final install click to you. Stable remains awaiting approval.
The new package passes host renders, unchanged sound baselines, simulated package tests, target fit and static DSP checks. Physical timing, recovery and the subjective sound of every roll still need hands-on evaluation. Start with low monitoring volume, try several rites and densities, and keep the rolls that invite playing.
Cleanse all user data in the Ritual Room is optional and starts unchecked. It permanently erases saved projects, presets, samples and settings. Back up your scriptures first. Leave it unchecked to keep your work. The same offering can be reinstalled with cleansing selected, returning to Evening Vow and fresh settings. Keep power connected until the instrument returns.
